French Envoy Hosts SL France Business Council Members’ Day

The Sri Lanka-France Business Council (SLFBC) of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently convened its annual Members’ Day, marking a significant step in bolstering economic ties between the two nations. The event was graciously hosted by the newly appointed French Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Rémi Lambert, at his official residence, providing a valuable platform for dialogue and networking among members.

Ambassador Lambert, in his address, underscored the robust and multifaceted relationship shared by France and Sri Lanka. He highlighted several crucial areas of current and future collaboration, including the ongoing efforts in debt restructuring, the enriching educational and cultural programs facilitated by Alliance Française, and the increasing presence and influence of French companies in Sri Lanka. Notably, the Ambassador emphasized the vital role of tourism, recognizing France as a leading source of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka.

Recognizing Sri Lanka’s strategic location and significant economic potential, Ambassador Lambert conveyed France’s strong interest in deepening its engagement across a diverse range of sectors. He specifically mentioned the critical importance of marine conservation and sustainable development, assuring Sri Lanka of France’s unwavering support in its journey towards economic rebuilding and revitalization.

Andre Fernando, President of the SLFBC, warmly welcomed Ambassador Lambert and expressed sincere gratitude for his hospitality. He also provided an overview of the Council’s key initiatives planned for the upcoming year. These initiatives are strategically aimed at further strengthening economic ties and fostering greater collaboration between Sri Lanka and France. A key highlight is the planned organization of a delegation visit by potential French investors to Sri Lanka, a significant undertaking supported by the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
