12 August 2025 – Colombo, Sri Lanka
In a recent interview with The Sunday Morning Business, MAC Holdings (PVT) Ltd. Managing Director and Vice Chairman of the Sri Lanka Logistics and Freight Forwarders Association (SLFFA), Mr. Andre Fernando, highlighted the urgent need to fast-track digitalisation in Sri Lanka’s logistics and freight forwarding industry to remain competitive regionally.
Mr. Fernando noted that while the sector contributes over $8 billion to the economy and supports more than 40,000 direct jobs, significant potential remains untapped. With the right strategies in place, including infrastructure expansion, policy reform, and targeted digital upgrades, the industry could grow to $12 billion by 2030.
Mr. Fernando also pointed to the need for workforce development, citing English language proficiency and curriculum modernization as key areas of improvement. SLFFA, through its training arm and CSR initiatives, continues to invest in building a skilled talent pipeline.
“As a nation strategically positioned along major shipping routes, Sri Lanka must act now to enhance its competitiveness. Fast-tracking digitalisation and creating investor-friendly policies are critical steps in that journey,” Fernando stated.
MAC Holdings remains committed to driving innovation and growth in the logistics and freight sector, supporting national efforts to position Sri Lanka as a leading regional logistics hub.
